The number of homes being insulated in Britain has risen according to the latest figures from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

Between April and July 2012, over 200,000 had cavity wall insulation and 480,000 properties undertook loft insulation. That now means that 65% of homes with a loft have had loft insulation and 68% of homes with cavity walls have had their walls insulated.

Since the government’s Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT), which began in April 2008, there have been 4.5m lofts insulated and over 2m cavity walls treated. The report states that the number of CERT cavity wall insulations in the last quarter has almost doubled compared with the same quarter a year earlier.

The number of properties having solid wall insulation has seen the biggest increase at 30% between the start of July 2011 and July 2012. However only 2% of the 7.9m homes in Britain with solid walls have undertaken the treatment.

Although the number of homes being insulated may have increased, DECC have also highlighted the number of homes, or remaining potential, that could still benefit from insulation. The estimates show that at the start of July 2012 there were 5.6m cavity wall properties remaining to be insulated – 30 % of all homes with cavity walls. Of solid wall properties, 97% remain untreated and of homes with lofts, 35% are uninsulated.

The tables below show the number of homes that have been insulated in Britain and also breaks it down by type. You can also see the number of which have been carried out under CERT. The downloadable spreadsheet has breakdowns by loft, cavity wall and solid wall insulation. What can you do with this data?
